OTD Activities

The Office for Technology Development is responsible for a variety of activities relating to intellectual property management and technology transfer. The primary responsibilities for the technology development program at UT Southwestern include:

• Evaluate new technologies
• Develop and execute patent strategy
• Initiate and manage patent filing process
• Develop and execute commercialization strategy
• Manage jointly owned intellectual property
• Educate inventors about technology commercialization
• Negotiate and finalize license agreements
• Monitor licensee compliance
• Administer inventor compliance
• Manage UT Southwestern's Intellectual Property Advisory Committee
• Secure industry support for research
• Facilitate faculty sharing of resources with outside parties, both not for profit and commercial entities
• Protect the confidentiality of university intellectual property
• Develop start-up companies based on university technologies
